The first WAM-V 14 USV, a fully electric version, was constructed in 2012 and delivered to Florida Atlantic University to be used as a platform for research on autonomous operation and for launch and recovery of AUVs. It combines the advantages of a small size platform with the carrying capacity to deploy a small AUV without the use of an over-the-side crane or cumbersome aft deployment system. As with all WAM-Vs, the WAM-V 14 USV can vertically deploy and retrieve payloads from the central payload location to the water surface.
